What you can do to help. Buy this Book!
A lot more than you might think. The key weapons we have are the truth, public opinion, and publicity. The more awareness that the public has of this issue, the more pressure can be exerted where needed. The ultimate goal is legislation that will make it unnecessary for us to go to such effort to preserve the river. But in the meantime, we all must work as hard as we can to prevent as much damage as possible.

Not only is it a great book, but the profits go to the Connecticut River Watershed Council.

Right now, you should download the "Action Pack" from the CRCPT - it's a handy guide to how you can help get crucial impending legislation passed which would impose an immediate moratorium on new docks. This is important; please download the information in MS Word or Acrobat pdf format, and get on the phone!
1) Silence builds excessive development. Publicity will help stop it.
The most important thing you can do (which is also the easiest and least expensive) is to speak out and let everyone who has an influence know that you want the river preserved.
Send a letter to your local newspaper and to the Hartford Courant. Most newspapers accept letters via e-mail. Click here for newspaper addresses.
State Representatives do like to hear from their constituents, and can be quite responsive and helpful. Remember, they can't help us preserve the river if they don't know how many of us care about the issue. Use the email-o-matic to send a message to all your elected officials, with just one mouse click.
2) Talk to people.
You'd be surprised how many people in the immediate area don't know how much development is planned in the river valley. The scenery gets chipped away, one little piece at a time, and many people won't notice until it's too late. Give everyone you know this website address so they can see the situation for themselves.
3) Keep informed, and make your presence felt.
Your best resource for long-term ways to help with these issues is to check with these organizations.
4) Whatever else you can think of.
Don't be shy about expressing your ideas and thoughts in any forum you can. You might be the one to come up with the ideas that work.
